Welcome to Wootton Primary School

Dear Parents

I am very pleased to be able to welcome you and your child to our school.

As a school, we can assure you that the children in our care will be well looked after and will feel secure within the environment, and that we shall strive to achieve the very best in terms of educational and personal development for every individual.  We believe that good relationships between home and school are crucial if a child is going to flourish and achieve to the best of their ability.  Consequently, we welcome and appreciate both your support and involvement in the life of the school, and in all aspects of your child’s education.

The aim of this prospectus is to tell you about how the school operates and the outline of what your child will be taught whilst they are with us.  I hope that you will find all the information that you need.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to benefit your child.

Our School

Wootton Primary School has been at the heart of the local community since 1872 when the village first received a grant to help educate the local children.  Since then the school has expanded greatly and now has over 380 children on roll. The school has recently been extended and now houses 14 classrooms, two per year group.  We have several shared areas outside the classrooms that are used for a variety of activities such as craft or small group work.  We have a large hall, a dance studio, library and ICT suite which are timetabled to enhance learning opportunities.  We are fortunate enough to be set in spacious grounds with three playground areas and a large playing field.  The staff believe that the outside environment is as important as the classrooms themselves to help children learn, and constantly strive to ensure that the physical environment is as safe and stimulating as possible.

The school has very good relationships with the local community and actively welcomes many visitors to school to enhance the education of our children.  Relationships with parents are highly valued as we believe that children thrive best when school and home works in partnership.  The active School Association helps raise funds for all those essential extras.  The governing body is also supportive of the life of the school and help to plan future school developments.

Wootton Primary School benefits from having a very dedicated staff, all of whom work closely together in order to ensure the best quality learning opportunities for children.    Learning is enhanced by additional support or teaching either individually or in small groups throughout the day, as well as by visiting specialists such as music teachers or sports coaches.  All who work at Wootton Primary School aim to achieve a happy, friendly and caring environment where all children are valued equally and their achievements are celebrated.

Children enter school in the Autumn term after their fourth birthday and follow the Foundation Stage curriculum for their first year.  This builds on experiences children have gained at home and in pre-schools.  Our intake number is 60, and the adult-child ratio is 1:15 at all times in the children’s first year at school.  Children then progress into key stage one and then key stage two where they follow the National Curriculum.  Each class is organized to achieve a balance of gender, ability, race and number where children benefit from working in groups at the same stage of development in their learning.
